Defunding the Deadly Trifecta: Planned Parenthood, PBS, and NPR

There is a dangerous pattern in our culture — one that begins in the womb and continues through the classroom and into adulthood. At every stage of life, the radical left has built a system that aims to destroy truth, distort values, and dismantle the family. And far too often, it’s funded by your tax dollars.

I call it The Deadly Trifecta: Planned Parenthood, PBS, and NPR. Three institutions that wield significant cultural influence, receive government funding, and promote a progressive agenda that is fundamentally incompatible with the values of Americans, especially of Bible-believing Christians.

It’s time for that funding to stop.

1. Planned Parenthood: Ending Life with Your Dollars

Let’s start with the most obvious and egregious offender: Planned Parenthood. According to their own report, this organization performs hundreds of thousands of abortions each year while receiving more than $670 million in taxpayer funding annually, primarily through Medicaid and Title X reimbursements. Planned Parenthood’s defenders argue that this money doesn’t directly fund abortion services — a claim that collapses under scrutiny. Every federal dollar that supports Planned Parenthood helps keep its lights on and its doors open, expanding abortion access.

Worse, Planned Parenthood doesn’t just perform abortions — it promotes them. It opposes every commonsense restriction, lobbies against parental consent laws, and works to enshrine abortion as a permanent “right” in state constitutions, such as Florida’s dangerous Amendment 4.

But abortion isn’t the only battlefield. In recent years, Planned Parenthood has quietly become one of the largest providers of cross-sex hormone therapy for minors in the country. With more than 200 locations in at least 40 states now offering gender-affirming hormone treatments — often without meaningful mental health evaluation or parental involvement — Planned Parenthood has expanded its reach into one of the most controversial and damaging arenas of modern medicine. Young girls are being put on testosterone after one or two appointments. In some cases, minors are being prescribed life-altering drugs the same day they walk in the door.

This is not healthcare. This is ideology. And it is being pushed — and funded — with your tax dollars. From the womb to the gender clinic, Planned Parenthood is waging war on the very image of God in every human being (Genesis 1:27).

And let’s be clear: God hates the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs 6:16–17). To force American citizens — including millions of Christians — to fund an organization responsible for ending so many lives is unconscionable. It is long past time for Congress to fully defund Planned Parenthood.

2. PBS: Propaganda in Your Living Room

If Planned Parenthood targets children in the womb, PBS aims for their minds.

Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is currently under fire for political and ideological biases in its news and content. Their programs and documentaries often exhibit left-leaning perspective, marginalizing conservative viewpoints.

The broadcaster receives hundreds of millions in taxpayer support annually through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Yet, rather than offering neutral, educational programming, PBS has embraced an aggressively progressive worldview — especially in its children’s content.

Cartoons like Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Sesame Street, programming that I grew up watching, have now featured same-sex couples, transgender characters, and left-wing social messaging aimed at children as young as three. In 2021, PBS aired a “Pride Month” feature showing a drag queen teaching children about LGBTQ+ terminology. This is not neutral programming — it’s ideological indoctrination with your tax dollars.

Christian parents are trying to raise their children in “the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). They deserve better than a government-funded entertainment system that works against them at every turn.

3. NPR: Shaping the Narrative, Silencing the Truth

While Planned Parenthood attacks life and PBS reeducates our children, National Public Radio (NPR) steps in to form the worldview of adults — and the bias is staggering.

Funded by taxpayers to the tune of nearly $100 million per year, NPR claims objectivity while consistently promoting leftist perspectives on nearly every issue. They demonize pro-life advocates, marginalize conservative voices, and regularly elevate fringe progressive ideologies as mainstream.

An article by The Free Press revealed that as of 2023, 87% of NPR staff identified as liberal. It furthered that at NPR’s D.C. headquarters, the editorial staff is made up of zero Republicans and 87 Democrats. This ideological monopoly has real consequences. Former NPR editor Uri Berliner stated, “We have allowed a very narrow worldview to dominate.” NPR no longer attempts balanced journalism — it uses public funds to advance political narratives.

This is not just biased — it’s wrong. The American people should not be forced to subsidize a media outlet that openly disdains half the country and the values they hold dear.

A Spiritual Battle for the Soul of the Nation

This isn’t just political. It’s spiritual.

The assault on truth in our society mirrors Romans 1:25 — “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie.” Whether it's abortion advocates redefining when life begins, drag queens on children’s television redefining gender, or media outlets suppressing truth and elevating falsehood, we are living in an age where deception is being normalized — and funded by those who still believe in truth.

As Christians, we are called to expose darkness (Ephesians 5:11), to uphold justice (Isaiah 1:17), and to steward the resources God has given us (1 Peter 4:10). That includes speaking out when our tax dollars are used to prop up institutions that oppose everything we stand for.

The time has come to defund the deadly trifecta.

A Call to Action for Congress and the Church

President Trump should be applauded for his decisive action to freeze government funding to Planned Parenthood. He has also called for the defunding of PBS and NPR. Conservatives in Congress are once again attempting to codify the administrations actions and defund these destructive entities. These efforts must be redoubled — with great urgency and clarity.

With the 2024 election delivering unified conservative control of the White House and Congress, we have a window of opportunity to act. And the Church must also stand.

And we call on pastors and Christian leaders across the nation to educate their congregations, speak truth boldly, and engage with their elected officials.

Our Children Are Not for Sale

This is about stewardship. This is about truth. This is about our children.

If we continue to fund institutions that end innocent lives, confuse the next generation, and manipulate public discourse, we are complicit in our own cultural decline.

But we can turn the tide. We can protect life, guard our children’s hearts and minds, and reclaim the public square — but only if we act with courage and clarity.

The left has made their strategy clear. It’s time for us to make ours just as clear.

Defund the deadly trifecta. For the sake of our children, our churches, and our country.
